I can’t sleep so I thought I might spend a moment to tell my readers how we are preparing our move to Korneuburg where we have bought an apartment. It’s fun; every time something annoys us in the vicinity of our old place, we just look forward to the new one with a big smile. We are not cut out for this kind of city life. I can’t tell you how much we look forward to living in greener surroundings, on a small quiet street, in a small town.
I’ve been spending a lot of time at work because of a very important project, so Ricarda has begun packing on her own. I brought all the old moving boxes up from the basement and Ricarda has been filling them rapidly. It’s odd to come home and see an entire bookcase suddenly empty, or opening the cupboard to get plates for the table and finding that empty, too. But the moving date is getting near and it won’t do to not be ready by then. So far, I’m far behind with packing my things, but I hope to catch up in the end.
Several friends have offered to help us with the actual move. That’ll be the weekend of 9-10. August 2008 and we have arranged a medium-sized truck that does not require a lorry license. We will need to make several trips. There will be a lot of boxes and boards to carry up and down, but luckily there is an elevator in both buildings. Some things like the big leather sofa are too big though, and heavy too, so we are very grateful that friends are showing up to help us.
We have ordered a new kitchen (Ikea is as good as anything else but costs a third) as well as the wardrobes we need for the bedroom. We have also ordered new electrical appliances for the kitchen and a new washing machine. All these are things that we leave in the old apartment as part of the deal with those who move in after us.
We also went to one of the many large do-it-yourself shops to decide on wall colors. Most of the apartment will have boringly white walls but the kitchen and one living room wall will be a soft green, to contrast nicely with the beechwood furniture. Another wall will be decorated so it looks as if made of bricks. There are several ways to get this effect so we can decide between a poor imitation that is easy to do or a great imitation that takes a lot of effort. Come visit us some day and check out the effect.
Hi Torben and Ricarda, congratulations with your new home and good luck with the move. Hope to see you soon – here or there :-)
