Missed opportunities

My house was built less than two years ago and the satellite view of my home on Google Maps showed this: a lot of grass, but no house. It’s the lot in the middle of this angled view:

I know that aerial photos are updated from time to time and I figured that I’d have plenty of time to prepare a little gimmick before the next update.

Life detox: recognize what bothers you, then reduce it

This post made me stop and think for a moment. There are some elements in my life that consistently bother me to some degree, and here Trent gives a simple recipe to address them:

Think of five small things that are an irritant in your life. […] little things that bother you on a consistent basis.

Then,[…] come up with a way to lessen or eliminate the irritation from each of those things. You’ll be able to eliminate some, but with others you’ll find improvement from just reducing the impact it has on you.

What you’ll find is that your entire day-to-day life subtly improves.

This is just a little thing but it might make you, too, stop and think for a moment.

The calls ranged from simple customer questions about where to buy some Microsoft product, to extremely complicated licensing questions from major partners. It was generally interesting and often challenging. And once in a while, a question came along that had me in tears.

How to recover from MD5 mismatch

If any of the following is gibberish to you, it’s better to stop reading. Not everything I post is useful to the general public ;-)

If you’re trying to restore a backup of your Android and you get the error message “MD5 mismatch”, then here’s the solution. I was searching for this and found so much bad information. I feel that the correct information needs more publicity, so here’s my contribution to this.

First, here’s the typical problem that you’d experience:
