IT news sites report that Google will launch a new browser today that will compete with Firefox and Internet Explorer. It’s going to be interesting to see what it offers. From a technical point of view it will probably be great as it is based on fresh young ideas and not on several earlier versions (which is a strength in other matters though).
According to some rumors, this will be the download URL: gears.google.com/chrome/?hl=en but the URL just redirects to the Google homepage. This redirect will probably just be turned off at launch, so keep an eye on it.
Update:
Having tested the browser, I can confirm that its speed is impressive. It’s also pretty intuitive to use, so Google has delivered a good beta. But it’s still beta, of course, with many things still left to do. First and foremost, I miss the many extensions that I use on Firefox, so I’ll be sticking with the ‘fox — for now.
